Today is my birthday! Punchline! Don’t worry about me. I’m pretty good with aging. Not like these guys.
You know what would be a great present for me? Spread the word about Barflys. Vote on TWC. Make your friends read it. Blackmail them, whatever
Have a great St. Patricks Day tomorrow

I like your motto, by the way. “I drink, therefore I am.”
Although cogito doesn’t rhyme with bibo… maybe you should have kept it in English. Descartes said it in French, anyway.
I don’t even know why it was translated into Latin…
I guess someone who liked Latin looked at “I think, therefore I am,” and thought, You know what would make that more impressive? Latin. That’s what would make it better.
Also, I wouldn’t think you’d need a very heavy Latin vocabulary to be able to say “I think” or “I am.”
Hope this doesn’t sound too pretentious but, the sentiment “cogito ergo sum” doesn’t originate with Descartes. It preceeds him by a thousand years. It’s latin because the ancient romans (or greeks maybe) were the first to bring it up.
Descartes just got famous for it by dissecting it and using it as a way to silence skeptics and to prove the existence of God (although I find his God arguments to take some logical leaps.)
Hm, okay. So Renee Descartes just popularized it, much as Thomas Crapper was not the inventor of the flushing toilet; he just popularized the crapper.
(Another appropriate name– George Crum is credited as the inventor of the potato chip– not quite as appropriate as Crapper, but chips do leave crumbs.)
Yes exactly. Rene Descartes is the Thomas Crapper of philosophy
So I hope you had a happy St. Patrick’s Eve birthday, then.
Pretty great! Thanks
